Observe an assessment, a formal test is preferable
o What is the math skill or concept being assessed?
Students have an Exam of the unit 3 Expression and Equation in Chapter 6 Equation and inequalities. The standards which are assesst are 7.EE.4, 7.EE.4a and 7.EE.4b

Standards
- Use variables to represent quantities in a real-world or mathematical problem, and construct simple equations and inequalities to solve problems by reasoning about the quantities.
- Solve word problems leading to equations of the form px + q = r and p (x + q) =r, where p, q, and r are scvbc vvvvccccccccccpecific rational numbers. Solve equations of these forms fluently. Compare an algebraic solution to an arithmetic solution, identifying the sequence of the operations used in each approach. For example, the perimeter of a rectangle is 54 cm. Its length is 6 cm. What is its width
- Solve word problems leading to inequalities of the form px + q > r or px + q < r, where p, q, and r are specific rational numbers. Graph the solution set of the inequality and interpret it in the context of the problem. For example: As a salesperson, you are paid $50 per week plus $3 per sale. This week you want your pay to be at least $100. Write an inequality for the number of sales you need to make, and describe the solutions.

The Exam or Test that I observed which was two page long see figure 1 and figure 2
BEFORE: Before the assessment, watch and listen as the teacher distributes the test or assignment.
o What does she say before giving out the papers?
Before giving out the papers Miss Aaesha told them "stand up,close your eyes and breath in and breath out". I believe she did that to make students relaxed before the exam. She also said " You can do it and who ever get full marks you will get 200 point so go for it" and "If you want to submit your test put in the the test box and you can leave but cant submit it before 30 minutes of the exam"
o How does she hand out the papers?
She give each row six paper to the students in the front and she pass it to the girl behind her and so on.
o What sort of directions are given?
She said "you may write your name and class but you can't start the exam until everyone have the paper' and students did what she said because it like routines for them.
o How does she ensure that all students are listening?
She ensure that by making all students looking at her and if they nit they lose 100 points of their group.
DURING: During the assessment (give examples):
o How does the teacher respond to students who raise their hands with questions?
She go near them and ask what the help that they need and she responded to their questions in friendly ways unlike most of the teachers don't like if students have questions which I faced in primary school.
o What sorts of questions or comments does she make? Are directions reiterated?
She usually gives hint to get the better understanding of the question. For example, "she said what we called this equation? is it one or two step? so how you will solve it?". Moreover, directions ate not reiterated because they know the routines.
o Are students directed to reread or to thing about the meaning of the problems?
Yes, before Miss Aaesha explain the problem she asked them to reread the question because she believes that some students just need to read it aloud in order to understand the problem.
o Are the students told how to proceed?
No, they just need to figure that by them self.
o What sorts of hints are given, if any?
She said to the whole class " Do you remember the Alligator" that hint is for bigger that or less that concept of the inequality. She also add "before choosing the right answer you just need to solve it".
· During the assessment, If no student raise their hands, what does the teacher do?
o Does she sit at her desk?
She may sit for 15 minutes during whole exam.
o Circulate around the room?
She always circulate around the class to make herself available and approachable for all students.
o Does she look over the students; shoulders? (If she does, ask her later what she was looking at)
Yes, only for one student and when I asked her why? she replied " I want to know her answer of the question 6 which most students get it wrong and she got it right"
· During the assessment, are there times when the teacher addresses the whole group?
Yes, when one students ask that if the check in question 9 and 10 was worth a mark. She addressed the whole class and say "The question 9 and 10 have marks so don't forget to check your answers.
o What precipitates (happens before) these announcements and what are their topics?
Students were wondering is check part worth a mark or not so it was basically about the marking.
o During the assessment how does the teacher deal with students who finish early?
If the students finish early she give them 2 minutes break (at their table) and then asked them to review the test before submitting.
AFTER
· After the assessment, how does the teacher end the test or the class session?
After all students submit the exam in the box most of them were already left. However, when each student hand in the test she thanked them and tell them that she hope they got full mark for 200 point.
o Does she make announcements about the time remaining even before time is up?
Yes, she start telling the remaining time of the last 15 minutes to make students aware of it.
o How are papers collected?
Miss Aaesha have a Test box near her table so as individual students submit their work.
o What happens with students who are not yet finished?
She gave them 5 minute extra and then collect the paper. She believes that every students need a different amount of time to answer the questions correctly.
· Reflection: Do you think her actions and responses fit with the type of assessment the students were working on?
In my opinion, I think her actions and response was effective because students were paying close attention to it which make her action sparkle. In addition, what I liked about her action that she accept and respond quickly to the students questions which make students feel comfortable to ask during the test or assessment.
