Identify models and manipulative that are available to use in a mathematics classroom that you visit
o Did you see them being used?
My MST didnot use any manipulative for students when I asked her for reason she told me that she use algebra titles in semester 1 because they have a long semester but semester 3 is the shortest semester and they need to approach students standers.
o If so, what models and manipulatives were used?
She used Fraction tiles (Fraction Lesson), Algebra titles and clay (Create your own 3D shape - Geometry)
· Ask your MST about how she organizes her class when she uses manipulatives.
She organize her class effectively because of the following reasons:
1- She plan any Manipulative Lesson in two hour class which means he organize with other teacher to have two hour class.
2- She makes sure that every students have the manipulative so she number her manipulative so each group must have one to six boxes)
3- To hand in manipulative she say (all the number ones come in the desk to collect your manipulative.
o Does she write her lessons differently?
Yes, she make whole lesson to use only Manipulative.
o Does she use more or less time for the activities?
She use more time for the activities if she use manipulative because when students use it they need time and that helps to let students have an conceptual understanding of the topics.
o How does she prepare the materials before the lesson?
She put four basket related to the colors of the groups and each basket have six manipulative which are numbered from one to six.
o How does she give directions or model the use of the manipulatives?
She started by applying in the board then she let students to do it by them self. Moreover, when students started to use manipulatives she monitor each group and give some tips if need it.
